Clipora Privacy Policy

Clipora Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-06-24

Clipora ("the App," "we," or "us") is developed and operated by the individual developer opaic. Clipora is a macOS clipboard history manager that runs in the menu bar and automatically saves your clipboard history locally on your device. This Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect your information, and the rights you have when using the App. Please read this Policy carefully before using the App.

If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, stop using the App immediately. By accessing or continuing to use the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted this Policy.

1. Scope and Core Features

  • Clipboard history capture: Monitors the system clipboard in the background and automatically saves copied content (text, rich text, images, files, and links) to a local encrypted database on your device. No clipboard data is transmitted to any server.
  • Search and retrieval: Full-text search with optional regex and command-based filtering (e.g., by content type or time range) over your local clipboard history.
  • Pin and organize: Pin frequently used items for quick access; items are sorted by recency or usage frequency.
  • Auto-deduplication and cleanup: Duplicate entries are merged automatically; items older than 30 days are removed by default.
  • Subscriptions and licensing: In-app subscriptions via the Mac App Store, and direct-sale perpetual license keys, to unlock Pro features.
  • Notifications: Optional system notifications for relevant events (e.g., license expiry reminders).

This Policy applies to all of the above features. If new features require additional data collection, we will update this Policy and, where required, seek your explicit consent.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to operate the App and verify your license.

2.1 Clipboard Content (Local Only)

The App reads and stores clipboard content—text, rich text, images, file references, and URLs—solely on your device in a private local database (SQLite). Clipboard content is never transmitted to any server or third party. We have no access to what you copy. You remain in full control: you can delete individual items, pin, or clear all history at any time within the App.

Sensitive content note: Because Clipora captures everything you copy, clipboard history may incidentally include passwords, tokens, or other sensitive data. We strongly recommend using the "Ignore Apps" feature to exclude password managers or other sensitive applications from capture.

2.2 License and Subscription Data

  • App Store channel: Transaction ID, product ID, and receipt provided by StoreKit 2, transmitted to our backend (backend.opaic.me) solely to verify entitlement. We do not store your Apple ID or payment details.
  • Direct-sale license key channel: The license key you enter and a device fingerprint (derived from hardware identifiers provided by macOS, not personally identifiable on its own) are transmitted to our backend to activate and validate your license. We retain activation records for fraud prevention and license recovery purposes.

2.3 Device and Diagnostic Information

  • Device info: macOS version, app version, and device architecture—used to deliver software updates and diagnose compatibility issues.
  • Crash reports: If crash reporting is enabled in Settings, crash stack traces and minimal device context are sent to our backend. This never includes clipboard content.

2.4 Usage Analytics (Optional)

Anonymized feature-interaction events (e.g., search usage, item type distribution) may be collected to improve the product. You can disable this at any time in Settings > Privacy > Analytics. No clipboard content is included in analytics.

We do not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, camera data, microphone data, or any other personal information not described above.

3. How We Use Information

Purpose Data Used
Provide clipboard history features Clipboard content (local only, never leaves device)
Verify subscription entitlement App Store receipt / StoreKit transaction
Activate and validate license keys License key, device fingerprint
Diagnose crashes and bugs Crash logs, device/app version
Improve product experience Anonymized usage analytics (if enabled)
Respond to support requests Information you provide in your support email

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose not stated above.

4. Sharing, Transfer, and Disclosure

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties, except:

  1. With your explicit consent.
  2. As required by law, court order, or regulatory authority.
  3. Service providers necessary to operate the App:
    • Apple (App Store / StoreKit): Processes in-app purchases and subscriptions. We receive only the transaction receipt necessary for entitlement verification; we never access your payment card details.
    • Our licensing backend (backend.opaic.me): Receives license key and device fingerprint solely to validate entitlement. Data is stored on servers primarily in the United States.
  4. In the event of a business transfer: If the App is acquired or transferred, the new operator will be bound by this Policy, or we will seek your consent again.

Clipboard content is never shared with any third party under any circumstances.

5. Permissions and System Access

Permission / Capability Purpose Impact If Denied
Pasteboard (clipboard) access Read clipboard content to save history Core history capture unavailable
Local file system (app sandbox) Store clipboard history database and cached images History cannot be persisted
Network access Verify license / subscription entitlement; submit crash reports (if enabled) License validation unavailable; crash reports not submitted
Accessibility (optional) Detect which app is in front to support "Ignore Apps" exclusion rules Cannot exclude apps from capture
Notifications Send license expiry or other optional reminders No notifications received; all features remain functional

We do not request microphone, camera, location, contacts, or any permission unrelated to the above.

6. Data Storage and Security

  • Clipboard database: Stored in the App's sandboxed container (~/Library/Application Support/Clipboard/), accessible only to the App. The database is protected by macOS sandbox restrictions.
  • License credentials: License key activations and device fingerprints are stored on our backend with access controls limited to the App's verification service.
  • Transmission security: All network calls (license verification, crash reporting) use HTTPS/TLS.
  • Data minimization: Clipboard images are stored as compressed thumbnails with originals cached for 30 days; text content has configurable retention limits.
  • Server location: Our backend is hosted primarily in the United States. If processing in other regions becomes necessary, we will update this Policy accordingly.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Data Category Retention Period How to Delete
Clipboard history (local) 30 days by default (configurable) Delete individual items or clear all history in the App; uninstall the App to remove all local data
Cached clipboard images Cleared with history items or at 30 days Same as above
License activation record Retained while license is active; delinked after license expiry or upon request Contact support to request deletion
App Store subscription receipt Retained for audit purposes per applicable law (up to 5 years) Contact support
Crash reports 90 days on our backend Disable crash reporting in Settings; contact support to request deletion
Anonymized analytics Aggregated; no individual retention Disable in Settings > Privacy > Analytics

Uninstalling the App removes all local clipboard data. Server-side records (license activations) are not automatically deleted on uninstall; contact us to request their removal.

8. Your Rights and How to Exercise Them

  • Access / Export: Your clipboard history is stored entirely on your device and is directly accessible within the App.
  • Delete: Delete individual clipboard items or clear all history within the App at any time. For server-side data (license records), email us with your request.
  • Correct: Contact us to correct inaccurate license or activation records.
  • Withdraw consent: Disable Analytics or Crash Reporting in Settings at any time.
  • Data deletion request: Email [email protected] with your device fingerprint or license key; we will process requests within 15 business days after verification.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover such data has been collected, we will delete it promptly.

10. Cross-Border Data Transfers

License verification and crash report data are processed on servers primarily located in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States. We implement appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Policy as the App evolves or legal requirements change. Material changes (e.g., new data types, new sharing parties) will be communicated via in-app notices, and explicit consent will be obtained where required. Non-material updates take effect upon publication; continued use constitutes acceptance.

12. Contact Us

For questions about this Policy, your personal data, or to exercise your rights, email [email protected]. We respond within 15 business days. Phone and in-person support are not available.
